Alpine Wayfinding Strategy

Alpine Shire - Victoria

Lead Consultants and Design Team: Arterial
Strategic Planning: Urban Initiatives

The Alpine Shire Wayfinding strategy required a sign and information language specific to each of the towns of Bright, Myrtleford and Mount Beauty to facilitate easier navigation for cyclists, pedestrians and motorists through each of the towns.

Inspired by the vivid colours of the European deciduous trees which line the landscape and change hues with the seasons we developed a colour palette, leaf motif icon and wayfinding map specific to each of the three towns. The colours and motifs are used right across the trail signage in each town for easy orientation and navigation of the available trails and walks.

The maps display the geography of each of trail, as well as accessibility and facilities, reinforced with symbols applied to the sign along with upcoming distances.

Colour coding and simplicity were at the heart of this concept which unites with the natural beauty of the region
